Frida Hyvönen "Terribly Dark"

De senaste dagarna har jag lyssnat mycket på Frida Hyvönens nya singel "Terribly Dark", och jag ser fram emot skivsläppet den 11 april! Låten får mig minnas en intervju med henne för några år sedan, där intervjuaren blev perplex när Frida på frågan om vad hon själv tycker om för musik, svarade att hon ej lyssnar på musik. Men, jag tycker att det går att märka i 80-känslan, som att hennes referens är hennes minnen av musik. Intervjun var utförd i hennes hem på landsbygden i norra Sverige, och jag tänker mig att denna låt är komponerad där en mörk vinterdag. Och låtens text och vädret den sista tiden får mig att tänka att våren i år kanske inte kommer förrän Valborg?
Jag är ett selektivt fan av Fridas musik då jag tycker att vissa låtar är lite för deppiga för min smak, men hursomhelst, i detta fall tycker jag att låten är peppande och bra (men att videon är lite väl, eh mörk)!

These last few days I've been listening a lot to Frida Hyvönen's new single "Terribly Dark", and I'm looking forward to the release of her new album on April 11th! The song makes me recall an interview with her some years back, and how perplexed the interviewer was when Frida, as a reply to the question of what music she listens to, said that she doesn't listen to music. The 80's feeling to her music makes me think that her musical references therefore might be her own memories of music. The interview was held in her home in the countryside of northern Sweden, and I can imagine that this song was composed there on a dark winter's day. And the song's lyrics and the weather lately makes me think that spring this year might not arrive until Valborg? 

I am a selective fan of Frida's music, as I think that some of her songs are a bit too blue for my taste. But anyhow, I think this song is uplifting and nice (but that the video is a bit, eh dark)!

No Makeup Pt. 2

The Breeders "Cannonball" 1993

Idag testade jag den osminkade looken genom att ej använda mascara, dock hade jag puder och bronzer-rogue... Och det kändes bra! Ingen kommenterade att jag såg trött ut, jag tänkte inte ens så mycket på det faktiskt. Idag var jag i och för sig i metropolen Växjö, vi får se hur jag gör i en större stad.
Och jag vet det känns lite fånigt att skriva ovanstående rader, men jag tycker om att belysa sådana aspekter som vi tar för givet. Jag tycker verkligen att Simone de Beauvoirs berömda uttryck "man föds inte till kvinna, man blir det" stämmer, för det är så många saker man ska göra som kvinna för att framstå som kvinnlig. Och jag kan tänka ibland på den tid det tar, t ex inte bara att sminka sig utan också på att försöka ta reda på vilka produkter som funkar och som inte är fulla av kemikalier, tid som man skulle kunna lägga på annat. När jag ser reklam som den för Gillette Venus som säger "ta fram gudinnan i dig" tänker jag att gudinnan i mig redan är här.

Today I've tried the makeup free look by not using any mascara, I've had some powder and bronzer-blush on though... And it felt good! I didn't hear anyone saying that I looked tired, and I didn't even think that much about it as a matter of fact. I was in the smalltown Växjö today though, so we'll see if I'll repeat it when I'm in a bigger city.

And I know it seems a bit silly writing the above sentences, but I like to bring forth such aspects of life that we take for granted. And I really think that Simone de Beauvoir's famous saying "you're not born a woman, you become one" is true, because there's so many things you should do as a woman to be considered feminine. Sometimes I think about the time it takes, not just to put on makeup but also to try out different products to find the right one for you for example, and for me personnally, to try to find more natural products. Time that could be spent doing other things. When I see commercials like the one for Gillette Venus, that says "reveal the goddess in you", I think that the goddess in me is already present.

Feels Just Like It Should

Nyligen avslutade jag en kurs på Stockholms universitet, och i och med det har jag nu 6 års akademiska studier, vilket känns mycket bra!
Jamiroquai är ett band jag brukade lyssna mycket på i slutet av 90-talet. Först i och med att skivan 'Rock Dust Light Star' kom ut 2010 (vilken jag tycker är en av deras bästa), kom jag att tänka på dem igen. Låten 'Feels Just Like It Should' är ifrån ett tidigare album, ett av flera för mig tidigare oupptäckta album ifrån dem. Och att hitta (eller återupptäcka) en artist man tycker om med flera bra alster bakom sig känns också mycket bra!

I recently finished a course I took at Stockholm university, which means that I now have 6 years of academic studies, and it feels very good!
I used to listen to Jamiroquai a lot in the late 90's. And it wasn't until the album 'Rock Dust Light Star' was released in 2010 (which I think is one of their best albums) that I thought of them again. The song 'Feels Just Like It Should' is from one of their earlier records, one of several to me previously undiscovered records from them. And to find (or rediscover) an artist that you like which has several good albums behind them also feels very good! 

90-talstendenser igen, nu hos Weekday

Häromdagen var jag även förbi Weekday. Där såg jag ovanstående rosa skjorta på rea, och pastellfärgen fick mig åter att tänka på 90-talsmodet då jag minns att jag hade ett par färgade jeans i ljusblå pastellfärg runt 1995. (Pastellfärger är förresten en av vårens trender.) På Weekday finns det många plagg med 90-talets grungestil. Och de säljer ju även 2:nd hand kläder, vilket blev populärt att köpa först på 90-talet och har varit det sedan dess.
På det andra fotot provar jag en tröja på Weekday som också finns på rean. Den får mig att tänka på naturmodet som var inne på 90-talet. Exempelvis hade jag ett par beiga kängor i ett slags styvt linnematerial, som hade ordet 'Grunge' broderat på sidan. På 90-talet var det stort med miljöfrågor, så jag antar att det var tidens anda (Zeitgeist) som avspeglades på modet.
Det är därför jag har med Jamiroquais första singel 'When You Gonna Learn?' ifrån 1993 som handlar om miljöfrågor och djurplågeri (och för att jag gillar låten förstås). Notera delfinerna i musikvideons början - det var mycket tal på den tiden om delfiner då de ofta fångas och dör som en följd av jakten på tonfisk. Delfiner blev även en del av modebilden, jag kommer exempelvis ihåg att min syster hade en guldring i formen av en delfin, och att det ett tag var populärt med saronger med delfin-tryck (sarong var dock aldrig min stil). Ett väldigt tydligt exempel på hur zeitgeist avspeglades i modet! Vilket annars inte alltid är så lätt att se, tycker jag. Att 90-talsmodet är inne igen tolkar jag enligt denna teori som att det är en konkretisering av lågkonjukturen som det har talats om de sista åren, och som var djup under 90-talet. Och det är även populärt nu med ekologisk mat och hudvård, samt vegetarianism, så det kanske är inspirationen till ovanstående tröja? Jag gillade den något faktiskt, fotot ovan gör den inte riktigt rättvisa.

The other day I also passed by Weekday. The pink shirt was on sale there, and the pastel colour got me thinking of the 90's fashion again, as I recalled the pair of dyed jeans in light blue pastel colour that I wore around 1995. (Pastel colours is one of the trends for this spring, btw.) At Weekday you can find many garments with a 90's grunge style. And they also sell 2:nd clothes, which became a popular thing initially in the 90's and has remained popular ever since.
On the second photo I'm trying on a sweater from Weekday which is also on sale. It reminds me of the earthy fashion trend of the 90's. For instance, I had a pair of beige boots made up of a sort of stiff linen fabric, and they had the word 'Grunge' embroidered on the side. Environmental issues was big in the 90's, so I guess that it was the spirit of the time (Zeitgeist) that was reflected in fashion in such ways.
That's why I posted Jamiroquai's first single 'When You Gonna Learn?' from 1993, which is about environmental concerns and animal abuse (and because I like the song of course). Notice the dolphins in the beginning of the video - their suffering in conjunction with tuna hunting was much talked about back then. And pictures of dolphins also became a part of the fashion scene.  For instance, my sister used to wear a gold ring that was shaped as a dolphin, and many wore sarongs with a dolphin print for a while (sarongs was never my thing though). A clear-cut example of how zeitgeist is reflected in fashion! Which in other cases isn't always so easy to see, I think. The current 90's revival is something I interpret, according to this theory, as a conceptualization of the last years economic recession, which affected the 90's deeply. And at the moment, organic food and beauty products, and vegetarianism is popular, so maybe that's the inspiration behind the above sweater? I kind of liked it actually, I don't think the picture makes it justice.

This is the year

Denna låt har jag haft på repeat, och den gör att jag känner mig superpeppad inför 2012! Mina nyårslöften i år är: att studera klart, att bli vegetarian, att träna oftare och att vara tacksam.

I've had this song on repeat, and it makes me feel super excited about 2012! My new year's resolutions this year are: to finish my studies, to become a vegetarian, to exercise more frequently and to be thankful.

I kväll var jag förbi Gustaf Adolfs torg i Göteborg där det hölls en manifestation till minne av kristallnatten. Jens Lekman, som är en av mina favoritartister, sjöng några låtar. Det var väldigt fint och stämningsfullt sjunget av honom och hans bakgrundssångare!

This evening I was at Gustaf Adolf's square in Gothenburg, where there was a manifestation in memory of  kristallnacht. Jens Lekman, who is one of my favourite artists, performed some songs. It was really nice!
